Stansted Airport and Parking

Stansted Airport and parking is much like other airports throughout London and the United Kingdom. However, it does offer four options for parking, two of which are somewhat uncommon. It is nice to have more choices.

The premium parking option at Stansted Airport is valet parking. This is a great selection for the on-the-go person who likes to stay focused and delegate the little things. Simply one arrives at the airport terminal for the drop-off. It is secured during travel and is waiting in short term parking when they arrive. This makes it quick to get out of the airport. This is also the most expensive option.

The next option is short stay parking for those who are not traveling but picking-up or dropping-off. If one will be at the airport for a quick moment there is 15-minute Zone that charges less. There is also premium Fast Track parking which is a close to the terminal, provides wide parking spaces, and has dedicated entry and exit points (hence, Fast Track). This is good for those who do not like dealing with traffic and want to pick-up or drop-off and go. Short stay parking is closest to the terminal but also expensive.

Finally, the last two are mid stay and long stay parking. Basically, both are long stay types of parking. However, mid stay is a bit closer to the terminal and the shuttle travels every ten minutes. Whereas, the long stay parking departs every fifteen minutes for the terminal. Among Stansted Airport and parking options, long stay is the least expensive.

Stansted Car Park

Stansted airport is the fourth largest in the UK, with over 19 million flyers each year with the amazing accomplishment of serving all of these customers with only one runway and terminal. In that regard it would seem as though Stansted would be flooded with people and employees rushing to get places in a cramped environment, but in all actuality, Stansted has several affordable parking options at different prices available to all its customers.

There are three different parking options offered by Stansted, depending on the length of your stay and whether or not you want to utilize their meet and greet valet services. Short stay, mid-stay, and long stay parking are all available, but they do have different terms. Short term parking requires no previous booking and is suitable for people who are picking up or dropping off passengers. The service is only £2.60 for an hour, but the first 15 minutes are free, which means if you can get your passenger in and out quickly, parking will not cost you anything.

Mid stays are designed for those who need to leave their car parked for a day or more. The cost is a moderate £12.50 for each 24 hour period and there is no need to book in advance, but you can do so to ensure you have a spot waiting for your car. Long stays are designed for people who will be leaving the country on holiday and are charged at a rate of £9 per 24 period, with plenty of security to ensure the safety of your car while you are gone.

Stansted Car Hire Companies

Throughout the years, numerous people have tried to manage without the use of a car. This is rather admirable; the idea that you can navigate yourself around one of the largest cities in the world that is crammed full of busy people unwilling to give you a helping hand with the use of only a public transport system of which you are unfamiliar is no mean feat. In fact, there are some people who’ve managed to achieve this and have had a really good holiday without a car. The only problem is that the vast majority of people have a lot more difficulty in accomplishing this task. London is a very bewildering place if you are not used to the hustle and bustle and it is very easy to get lost in all the streets and shops and not have the faintest idea where you are or how to get where you want to go. The signposting for pedestrians simply isn’t as good as the signposting for vehicles, where every destination is clearly marked and your journey is spoon fed to you; you don’t even have to work out which lane you have to be in as the signs tell you!

It would be foolish not to use one of the many car hire companies when you arrive at Stansted airport because you are bound to regret your decision. You will not be out of pocket as the rates are very fair and there are often numerous offers to take advantage of.

Stansted Car Parking - Pink Elephant

The main reason why people choose not to park at the airport is based upon an old stereotype. There used to be the scenario at airports that the only people who flew were rather wealthy. Before the modern holidaymakers jetted off to various destinations around the world, foreign travel was restricted mainly to the people who were very wealthy. Because of this, everything was expensive in order to capitalise on this wealth; all the services within the airport were very expensive and the car parking was very expensive. Of course, these two costs are still seen as the main cost at an airport so people tend to adapt their journeys accordingly; catching trains or taking taxis and bringing food and entertainment. This, however, is no longer the case and, although people still perceive that the car parking at the airport is very expensive, the reality is that this is not true.

It is incredibly cheap to park at Stansted airport and, particularly for shorter excursions, it can often work out a lot cheaper than catching the train or hiring a taxi. There is no fear about there being too few car parking spaces when you arrive; you can rest assured that you will be able to find a space with over 150 in the car park. Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by outdated stereotypes; all you will end up doing is talking yourself out of a cheaper and much more convenient option; and where’s the sense in that?

Stansted Car Parking - Cheap

Driving to the airport is by far the best option when you are flying out. The main reason for this is that you are completely in control of your journey and are able to do something if there is a complication. Picture, for example, that you are catching two trains to get to the airport. If only one of these trains is delayed or cancelled (an all too common occurrence that sadly leaves us lagging behind our European neighbours) then it can seriously throw your travel arrangements into disarray. You will end up rushing for your flight and, if you are able to catch it, will be much more stressed than you should be; not the best way for you to start your trip abroad! By driving you avoid all of this potential hassle – you drive to the airport, park and are on the plane early. If there are any difficulties on your journey – road works or excess traffic – you are able to take another route because you are in control of your journey. This makes you a lot less stressed and you will enjoy your flight a lot more.

The car park at Stansted airport is well equipped to be able to accommodate you for the duration of your trip. The price is a lot cheaper than many people expect – far surpassed by the cost of public transport – so it actually works out cheaper to drive. You also have the security of knowing that your car is parked in a secure area that is watched over by a CCTV network that will ensure no harm comes to it. It can often work out at under £1 per hour if you are staying for an extended period which is far cheaper than the rumours would have you believe!

Stansted Car Parking - Long Stay

If you are going away on holiday for a week or two, or even just for a few days, long stay parking is more likely your best and cheapest option for parking at Stansted. You can use the online booking form to get a quote online, or just turn up on the day. The first is of course cheaper. However, if you want to just turn up on the day and park you will find that it is still a very reasonable £9.50 per day. Over the course of a week this will cost £66.50. Whilst the cost does soon escalate for a long stay, it is a small price to pay for the amount of security that your car will get whilst it is here - it is probably much safer than leaving it at your home as the airport car parking has 24-hour security teams patrolling the car parks, full CCTV and security fencing to ensure every single car is safe.

Once you are settled in the long stay car park, it is easy to get to the main terminal buildings - a free bus service ferries passengers to and from the long stay car park every 15 minutes, and the journey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on the volume of passengers present. There are over 130 parking spaces for blue badge holders to make visiting the airport with a disability much easier, and staff are always available to help those who need it. ‘Oversized’ parking is available should you have so much luggage that you find it necessary to bring a trailer or camper van!

Stansted Car Parking Prices

There is a stereotype that perpetuates the car parks at airports throughout the country and acts as a deterrent to parking there and has led to many people resorting to getting dropped off at the airport and then picked up again on their return. Whether this is by taxi or by friends or family, the same problem often arises which is the risk of not being picked up and arriving late to the airport (the stress is something that you obviously want to avoid). The main fear is that the cost of parking at the airport is extortionate and simply not worth the cost and it is this fear that prevents people from parking there; in spite of the reduced stress that comes from being in complete control of your journey and the ability to leave the airport straight away after you land back in the UK.

However, whilst this may have been the case in the past, this view is no longer valid because the reality is that car parking at the airport is actually incredibly cheap. In the short stay car park it can cost as little as £10 if you want to stay for 5 hours (even though the reality is that you won’t be staying for that long). For those of you who are flying out and need to stop in the long stay car park it can work out as costing less than £1 per hour; each day has the very low cost of £20. It would be madness not to take advantage of this excellent facility!

Stansted Car Parking BAA

Stansted airport is Britain’s third largest airport and has flights that go to and come from over 160 different locations throughout the world. Because of this, there is a belief that if you fly from Stansted airport, you can go almost anywhere you want to. Because this has resulted in such a large volume of people using the airport, there is a need for places to park close to the airport (Stansted isn’t within London and, with public transport the way it is, the vast majority choose to drive) so it is very fortunate that Stansted airport has car parking facilities that are able to cope with the demand.

The chief fear is that, with so many people all vying for a car parking space, you will be unable to find one when you arrive and, as such, will end up driving in circles as the time of your flight looms over the horizon. This, however, is not an issue at the BAA Stansted airport car park. By visiting the car park website, you can book a parking space in advance. This is quick and easy to do and means that when you arrive at the airport you can easily find a space to park in - leading to a much more relaxing and enjoyable build up to your flight. With separate long and short stay car parks, there is no spill over into the long stay car park for people who are only at the airport dropping someone off, meaning that there are always enough spaces for everyone.

Stansted Car Park Map

Stansted Airport Map
(click the map to enlarge)

Stansted airport is one of the most popular airports in London, offering cheap flights to many of the world’s largest cities and a comprehensive service that makes fliers and visitors alike feel comfortable. Hundreds of thousands of people fly in and out of the airport each year and a vast majority of those choose to use their car to get to and from the airport. It is therefore essential that the car park is easily accessible from all directions so as to maximise the amount of people able to fly from the airport. It is somewhat useful, therefore, that Stansted airport is one of the more accessible (by road) airports in London.

There are numerous ways in which you can reach the airport. If you are travelling from the north (directly north of London; from Cambridge) then you can take the M11 which will then meet the A120 at Junction 8; taking you right past the airport. Likewise, the airport is very accessible from London, with the M11 connecting to the M25 at junction 27. Once you are in the car park it is very easy to navigate around with clear signposting throughout. The short stay car park is very large which ensures that there is little spill over into the long stay car park; leaving those spaces to the people who need it. There are 3 machines to buy tickets from, located conveniently to ensure that there isn’t crowding around one of them, which creates a speedy system; essential when you may be rushing to drop someone off for a flight.
